Explained for every age
For kids (7–11)
Breathing is swapping air: air comes in through your nose, goes down a tube, reaches the lungs, and there your blood picks up oxygen and drops off the gas it doesn't need.
For teens (12–16)
Airways (nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi) and lungs. At rest, about 12 to 15 breaths a minute move half a liter of air each time. In the alveoli, oxygen passes into the blood and carbon dioxide comes out.
Pre-Med (17+)
Conducting zone (nose to terminal bronchioles, dead space ≈ 150 mL) and respiratory zone (respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts and sacs, ≈ 300–500 million alveoli, ≈ 70 m²). Ventilation driven by a pressure gradient generated by the diaphragm and intercostals; gas exchange by diffusion according to Fick's law.
